Paid writing consultations & implementation support
I offer paid consultations where I help with developing journal articles.
How I work
Most writing problems aren’t really writing problems. They’re thinking problems that show up in the writing — a mismatch between what the paper is trying to do and how it’s being written, or between what the writer understands and what the reader needs. Generic feedback and line edits can fix the surface without ever touching the cause.
We start with thinking, not text
Before we look at a single sentence, I want to understand how you’re thinking about your work: what your paper is trying to do, what kind of knowledge it’s contributing, and what you think your reader needs to walk away with. This analytical conversation tends to surface the problem more accurately, so that any editing that follows is actually fixing the right thing.
That doesn’t mean we won’t look at the text at all — we will.
Diagnose + fix
We’re not just going to locate the exact problem. We’re also going to think through actionable solutions. These solutions are aimed at your specific situations, so that you’re not left with generic advice that’s tricky to implement.
Isn't talking a bit slow?
Talking tends to be faster then focusing on the writing immediately. As stated above, most writing problems aren’t really writing problems. They’re thinking problems. And talking through your reasoning — and the reasoning of your supervisors, co-authors, or reviewers — tend to surface them faster.
How the sessions work
We work together, live, in a shared document. You bring the material, and we edit it together. In my experience that’s the fastest way to find out what message you’re trying to get across exactly.
No draft yet?
You can come with a mess, or with nothing at all. We can develop it on the spot using quick drafting techniques like freewriting — or we simply talk about your research. This is often where the most important work happens.
I don’t have an IMRaD paper/experimental work, can we still work together?
Yes. The most important thing to keep in mind is that different scientific fields have different conventions. We use your target journal as our guide, so that the structure and language of your work resemble that of the target journal in your field.
Moreover, a large part of writing isn’t structure related, but rather lies in challenges with the process. Those are things we can address regardless of field.

Will you make me write something that’s wrong?
No. I don’t assume I understand your topic, even when I think I do. That’s not a limitation — it’s deliberate. It keeps me genuinely curious rather than confirmatory, which means I ask the questions your readers will ask. In other words, I bring a fresh pair of eyes. You bring the knowledge, and I trust that knowledge is correct (your supervisors and co-authors should help ensure that it is indeed correct). What I do, is help you structure your ideas and point out gaps in the logic of the words you’ve written.
Testimonials: how do I know you can help me?
Here’s how I’ve helped others:
Ruichao Gao, PhD student Coastal Engineering at Sun Yat-Sen University, China, April 2026
We had three classes within five weeks. This helped me progress from having only an abstract to now completing all the writing sections except for the method part. The coaching helped me organize the structure of the article, improved the logical flow of my writing, and made the process of writing much easier for me.
Stijn Van de Vondel, PhD student Urban Ecology at University of Antwerpen, Belgium, March 2026
Rosanna quickly helped me identify the biggest obstacles in my current writing process, and strategized the following coaching sessions accordingly. She helped me in approaching writing as a more mechanical, as opposed to an organic, process via hands-on tips and guidelines. She also helped me build more self-confidence in my own writing style, as well as providing guidance toward manuscript finalization and submission (e.g., journal searching tools, letters of inquiry, …). And, last but not least, Rosanna is simply a great and approachable professional, which resulted in truly pleasant and low-threshold conversations. I highly recommend at least reaching out to her to see what she may have in store for you!
Marco Schrijver, PhD student at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, September 2023
Rosanna really helped to find my way out of the writer’s block on my first scientific paper. Great coaching and a recommendation to anyone who wants to write state of the art articles.
Pricing
I offer writing consultations at €80 per hour. We work online (videocall).
How many sessions will I need?
Typically 1-2 sessions for the Introduction, 2-3 sessions for the Discussion for a typical, experiment-driven IMRaD paper. For other papers, we can discuss and figure it out together. It is possible to book single sessions.
