Course: Writing a Submission-ready Journal Article

Structured guidance to write a complete journal article from initial draft to submission-ready manuscript. By the end of the course, participants have a completed manuscript and strong writing skills for their next papers — ideal for PhD students preparing or beginning a journal article.

The course takes place over 8-12 weeks and includes the following topics:

  1. Laying a strong foundation: defining study aims and scope, drafting initial methods and results
  2. Developing arguments: interpreting the results in the context of the literature, developing novel insights, preparing the discussion
  3. Structuring the narrative: framing for a specific journal, developing an outline
  4. Drafting efficiently: writing up a high quality first draft
  5. Revising: improving the content, logic, and structure of the manuscript
  6. Editing, polishing, and getting ready for publication: finishing the manuscript and writing a cover letter.

Focused Writing Retreat

An intensive, bootcamp-style writing retreat to make substantial progress or even finish a paper, thesis chapter, or similar academic writing project. The retreat typically contains:
